Well, I've been commuting to work in Manhattan for the last 2 months, a first for me as I have always worked on Long Island.
Last Friday (2/23) was the first time that I experienced what I would consider a problem. A woman on the train, about 6 rows behind me, was having a very loud conversation with her friends. The train had just left Penn Station when apparently, the young man directly behind me was extremely agitated by her volume. He started yelling "shut the fu*k up", unfortunately she was so loud that she didn't hear him. So he repeated his request and then he mumbled "if she doesn't shut the fu*k up, I'm going to kill someone."
Needless to say, this made me a little nervous. After all, he could have been a nut with a weapon for all anyone knew.
When the ticket taker came around he told the guy to shut up and sit down, of course they had words and the last thing that was said was that if he didn't shut up and stop cursing, he would be removed from the train. Then to make matters worse the ticket taker then asked him where he was going and he said Hicksville and of course he was told that the train was an express train and it didn't stop at Hicksville.
Meanwhile, Chatty Cathy continued to yak.
Finally he got up, turned and looked at her and yelled at the top of his lungs, "will you shut the fu*k up!!! No one wants to hear your conversation."
She finally realized that he'd been yelling at her all this time. She apologized and told him she was sorry he was having a bad day. He said to her, "I had a great day, I just don't want to listen to your fu*kin" conversation all the way home and I don't think anyone else does either."
Well, she shut up alright. It was a little scary to say the least as this guy was so pissed off.

I'm glad that guy spoke up. People run their mouths to much. There is a cell phone problem too. Especially in restaurants.

Love2Sing - I've been commuting into Manhattan since 1991 and have seen too much to list. However, last month was by far the worst. The AM ride (7:26 from Wantagh) started out as usual and I managed to fall asleep with a little from my CD player (Neil Young's Greatest Hits). We just passed Jamaica when the lady next to me started to wake me up. As I came around she said "Do you know CPR? That man needs help".
There was a crowd a people trying to help someone apparently having a heart attack. His blue color gave it away. There were announcements that any medical personnel should go to the car. I know CPR but there was a nurse and a volunteer fireman trying to revive him.
Here's what gets me. Did I mention we just passed Jamaica? (Where the hospital is two blocks away). The train kept going, against the pleas of the passengers. We made it to Penn Station but I don't think the gentleman did. The FDNY met us on the platform but the AED was on the floor of the train, not attached to the sick guy.

L2S, did anyone applaud this guy, or were they scared too?
This morning i stopped on a yellow arrow, because it looked too risky. The guy behind me was throwing his hands up in the air and cussin. Well, i knew he was worked up, and sure nuff, he rode my tail. This guy looked rough, and I didn't want to get into it with him. He was driving a big Lincoln, and as soon as he got a chance, he floored it and passed me on a double yellow line. He gave me the finger. I have to admit that i was a little scared. After he passed me, i saw 3 little girls riding with him. I thought that he shouldn't have acted like that with them in the car. So we come up to the end of the road, and he pulls in to a babtist private school. I guess he was late getting his kids to school,. The jackass saved no time what so ever by passing me. I thought it was real hypocritical of him, especially if he was baptist.

Well, I have more to tell. I didn't want to hit you all at once with my tales to tell.
I am sure that many of the Long Islanders know that sadly, a young lady commmitted suicide this past Friday night at the Bethpage Station. I take that line home to Ronkonkoma. We weren't on the train long when they made an announcement that the train would only go as far as Hicksville and they were giving us the option of getting off at Jamaica. Neither Jamaica nor Hicksville are scheduled stops for this train as it is an express from Penn to Ronk.
Most people were chatting or on their cell phones and you couldn't hear what the guy was telling us over the intercom.
I decided to get off at Jamaica and take it to Babylon.
Not to make light of the fact that someone died, but I got on the other train and needless to say it was packed. I stood in the middle of the aisle and had nothing to hold on to. I was near a set of 3 seaters that faced each other and one of the gentlemen sitting got up to give me his seat. I thanked him, but declined the offer and told him it was his train and he should have the seat. As the train started up it caught me off balance and I ended up falling on top of that man and the man opposite him. Not too terrible a thing, buy my hand landed right in the crotch of the other man.
Well, needless to say I was so embarrassed and of course I used my sense of humor to get out of that by saying I didn't think I was going to get so friendly with these gentlemen so soon. The guy I landed on was even funnier as he said he had no idea he was going to get a lap dance.
Well , that was the longest ride of my life. What a way to start a Friday!!!

ahaaahhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaa!
I take the train to work everyday. Lotsa people have no courtesy. Especially in this cell phone era.
I would of clapped the guy on. I actually asked nice to guy a few times talking loud on the cell phone and he ignored me. Then right in front of the conductor I said if you don't tone it down I'm gonna shove that cell phone up the crack of your ass. The conductor reprimanded him not me.
Some people have no manners.

awe, stoopid me! I didn't even realize what "commuter" was. I guess i thought it was commuting stories. yep, i'm a dumbass.
people talking loudly is a problem all over. people can be so obnoxious about it too...i experience it most at the gym and the bookstore. there are signs posted all over the gym to be courteous and not use your cell phone while you're working out-which, many, even the employees ignore. and then there are just 'loud talkers', mind you...both men and women who feel they have to carry on personal conversations while they do their cardio work outs. between the noise the equipment makes and the deafening music the gym plays they are practically screaming their conversations.
no joke...i carry my ipod with me at all times and have 2 sets of earplugs in my bag too.
