New Orleans’ Mardi Gras celebration may be larger and longer than last year, but will still be smaller in comparison to pre-Katrina Carnival seasons, Police Chief Warren Riley said Friday.
Riley said police were making the parade schedule ten days instead of eight days in 2005, and adding three additional parades.
Despite the recent additions, some of the larger, more popular krewes would be moved around from their original routes. Endymion would continue along its Uptown route instead of returning to Mid-City and Zulu’s route was shortened by a mile and a half.
The parades of Druids, Muses and Morpheus were rescheduled to February 14, February 15 and February 16, respectively.
Riley said he wanted to have a normal Carnival schedule but simply did not have the manpower for it.
